Local researchers revealed a mechanism of how stem cell works in regeneration of damaged cartilage.
According to MEDIPOST, a research team led by Dr. Jeon Hong-bae at the company’s R&D Center revealed that TSP-2, a protein excreted by stem cell, promotes cartilage regeneration. The research was published in “Stem Cell,” the oldest and most well-known journal in the field.
MEDIPOST said that the research proved the mechanism of “Cartisem,” a stem-cell treatment for knee cartilage defect by the company. Treatment using the medicine is performed at a number of hospitals and orthopedist clinics around the country, and is going through clinical test in the United States.
